My wonderful partner in crime, David came down to Weybridge to see me. Little did I know I was about to embark on not just a culinary adventure, but also learn about what I missed as a child in the 80s.

Lost Boys Pizza is located in Northwest London. We don't get to this part of London, living in Surrey, and he in Nottingham, but I am indeed glad we considered the trip out of the comfort zone. Was tonight going to be filled with fun, laughter and education? Yes it was! I learned so much in a couple of hours! A little background information about the restaurant. The first one opened in Archway last year in June. Alex Fisher and Peter Crozier-Clucas brought the pizza place to life to celebrate the 80s. The successful team opened the Camden branch and Absinthe bar, Croque Monsieur, located below the iconic restaurant. These can be found on Eversholt Street. For those like me who think coming into London can be a chore, it was a pretty straightforward journey. We arrived at Waterloo in 25 mins, then took the northern line for about 10mins and walked 2 mins around the corner.

Ok, this is where it was so important that David was with me as I had not ever seen the movie. I was a bit a of a scaredy cat back then (still am now I guess). Though I knew a few songs on the soundtrack, I was unfamiliar with The Lost Boys Movie. The Camden branch has been thoughtfully designed to mimic the Frog Brother Comic Book Store in the classic movie.

When we walked in, the ambiance was a bit dark but cosy. It provided a coastal feel to it (from the movie) with the colours of brass and beach blue paint. A few neon signage were decked about the small restaurant and if you looked up, the ceiling was covered with black and white comic book pages. The walls featured framed vintage comics from Alex and Pete’s collection.

We were greeted enthusiastically by Paloma, which later I will find out, to me, she must! remain working at this venue as she's perfect as part of the "set" (in a polite way). She was super lovely and very informative about the style of the pizza we were going to stuff our faces with.

The pizzas are made with black charcoal dough, and there are vegan and gluten-free options available. The creative menu is painted on the wall to be environmentally friendly.

David chose a beer to start with, and I had an Aperol Spritz.

THE PIZZAS The pizzas that were in jest of vampire inspired names we selected were, Fangs for the Memory - toppings: Chorizo, peppers, onions, chilli flakes. Plus, the Ready Pizza One - toppings: Apple smoked ham, red chilli, Lost Boys spicy green pineapple relish.

Pizza

Yep,I tried pineapple on a pizza 😳 BUT...it wasn't as sweet as those sweet gagging canned chunks you get on an ordinary pizza. The sauce had a subtle sweetness to it. With the heat of the chilli, the flavours had a perfect balance on the palate and quite enjoyable I must say.

The pizzas, though they are big and full of wonderful ingredients, were light and didn't leave that gut expanding filling. Not that it left you feeling unsatisfied, in fact, because the dough was so light it made you want to devour into more, not missing a bite!

Lost Boys Pizza Cocktail

Instead of going for puddings, we glanced over the wall for the cocktail that caught our eye! Amongst the amusingly named cocktails, we went for the Necroni: Gin, Campari, dead good Vermouth and the Ryders on the Storm: Wild Turkey, Lime, Ginger Bitters.

After this amazing feast, we were then introduced to the Absinthe bar: Croque Monsieur, "A brand new Absinthe bar invites Londoners to have wild and wonderful times with La Fee Verte. In this tiny basement bar, absinthe is taken from its dark history and catapulted into London’s present as the world of this mysterious and potent green liquid is opened up to connoisseurs and newcomers alike. Head down the iron staircase, a stained glass window will allow guests a sneak peek into this green-tinged absinthe den before ringing the bell for entry. Featuring absinthe fountains on each table, church pews as seating and Art Deco prints on the wall, Croque Monsieur offers an extensive range of brands, from reversed engineered liquids to more traditional names, meaning guests will be able to enjoy absinthe in its purest forms, as well as in delicious and approachable cocktails."

Jenny was on hand to give a very in-depth conversation about the history of Absinthe and the medicinal factors. I will touch upon this separately in a feature later this month, as I was so fascinated and there was so much information given.

We were very impressed by the meal, the service and the drinks. The cost was also quite reasonable. The total of two pizzas, two drinks per person came to £32, not bad for a date night in London. What was it about Paloma that later I discovered to be phenomenal?

Well, David, was in shock I had never watched "The Lost Boys". The next day we found it online, and I was now learning part 2 of the experience. If you have seen the film before, when you go to the Camden branch and meet Paloma. You can see an uncanny resemblance to the character, Star! I wonder if Alex and Peter had this in their business plan when hiring her.
