There is an estimated 40 million pics shared on Instagram. Selfies, family holidays pics, food, and pics of loved ones. While they are mainly stored on mobile devices, there are a few ways you can have them physically in your hands like in the good old days!

Recently, I had a thought about how to get some of my favourite pics from my mobile printed and came across, KiiPix from Tomy. KiiPix is a smartphone picture printer. The images are taken from your phone and magically printed onto the retro polaroid format.

The lightweight camera is super cute and comes in three colours, baby blue, powder pink and black. The camera does not require batteries. The box comes with a film cartridge that is pretty easy to load. It's quite a neat gadget and brings on a bit of nostalgia when used. I took it to my watering hole and tried it out on the locals ranging from the early 20s to late 60s, and the reviews were consistent. Most people said they loved the use of polaroids back in the day and would love to get one of themselves or for younger family members as a little retro keepsake.

To use the device is a bit finicky at first, but once you get used to it, it's fast and easy. It comes with a guide you put on the screen of your phone. I use an iPhone 8+, and we used it on iPhone 6. The template guide you place on the phone must be upright to get the image fully printed on the Instax film. There is a small mirror on the KiiPix to help you see you are aligned with the lens. The plastic template guide is only for portrait, not landscape images!

Once it's all balanced and you can see your image in the mirror, you then click the lever and turn the knob and viola your retro polaroid will appear. After a few mins, the image is developed. There are 10 photos per Instax pack. We had a varied range of quality of images. I preferred the contrast of the black and white photos I copied over from my phone.

The camera is available through a few retailers ranging from £40-£50. The film from £15- £20 and some offer dual packs (20 photos altogether). You do receive one packet of film with your purchase, but 10 photos will go quickly while you have that time playing around with the new "toy"!
